100% awesome? Geez, where do I even begin? I honestly couldn't get through a half hour of this show. I listened to as much as I could of one of the new songs, Fountains of Wood. Hunter's lyrics might have been great, but I wouldn't know, because after the frst 3 minutes of 100% monotonous steady-state rhythm with a guitarist meaninglessly riffing over the top, I didn't care if the lyrics were written personally by Jesus Christ. 100% boring. The essence of boring. This kind of rock has been dead since the mid-70s, and the actual Grateful Dead knew that at the time, which is why they took the music in a more progressive direction starting in 73...just before heroin killed all the will to bother trying in about 78 or so. I've heard some great stuff from Phil & Friends at times--even great readings of old stuff, which is challenging to do--so I thought I'd give this a shot. Trust me, if you want a continuation of the spirit of musical exploration that the Dead are rightly famous for, look to P&F...certain tours more so than others. Not this crap.
